Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday anordnas varje tisdag av bloggen The Broke and The Bookish och går ut på att man ska lista sina topp 10 inom ett valt ämne.

Veckan tema är:
Ten Fairytale Retellings I've Read/Want To Read (or you could do fairytales I want to be retold or fairytales I love)

Never Always SometimesNever Always Sometimes - Adi Alsaid

Never date your best friend

Always be original

Sometimes rules are meant to be broken

Best friends Dave and Julia were determined to never be cliché high school kids—the ones who sit at the same lunch table every day, dissecting the drama from homeroom and plotting their campaigns for prom king and queen. They even wrote their own Never List of everything they vowed they'd never, ever do in high school.

Some of the rules have been easy to follow, like #5, never die your hair a color of the rainbow, or #7, never hook up with a teacher. But Dave has a secret: he's broken rule #8, never pine silently after someone for the entirety of high school. It's either that or break rule #10, never date your best friend. Dave has loved Julia for as long as he can remember.

Julia is beautiful, wild and impetuous. So when she suggests they do every Never on the list, Dave is happy to play along. He even dyes his hair an unfortunate shade of green. It starts as a joke, but then a funny thing happens: Dave and Julia discover that by skipping the clichés, they've actually been missing out on high school. And maybe even on love.

Mina tankar
Första veckan i augusti bjuder verkligen på galet många nya böcker. Never Always Sometimes och Daughter of Dusk åker direkt upp på att-läsa-listan.

Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds

Hermione Granger, Hary Potter
“Oh, HONESTLY, don't you two read?”

Finn Belastra, Born Wicked
“Reading is the perfect escape from whatever ails you.”

Cather Avery, Fangirl
“To really be a nerd, she'd decided, you had to prefer fictional worlds to the real one.”

Elizabeth Bennet, Pride and Prejudice
“Miss Eliza Bennet,” said Miss Bingley, “despises cards. She is a great reader, and has no pleasure in anything else.”

Liesel Meminger, The Book Thief
“As always, one of her books was next to her.”

Matilda, Matilda
“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.”

Tyrion Lannister, A Game of Thrones
“My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer and I have my mind...and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That's why I read so much Jon Snow.”

Celaena Sardothien, Throne of Glass
“Libraries were full of ideas–perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.”

Anne, Anne of Green Gables
“I am simply a 'book drunkard.' Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.”

Maggie, Inkheart
"The book she had been reading was under her pillow, pressing its cover against her ear as if to lure her back into its printed pages."

All We Have Is NowAll We Have Is Now - Lisa Schroeder

What do you do with your last day on earth?

Just over twenty-four hours are left until an asteroid strikes North America, and for Emerson and everyone else who didn't leave, the world will end. But Emerson's world already ended when she ran away from home. Since then, she has lived on the streets, relying on her wits and on her friend Vince to help her find places to sleep and food to eat.

The city's quieter now that most people are gone, and no one seems to know what to do as the end approaches. But then Emerson and Vince meet Carl, who tells them he has been granting people's wishes -- and gives them his wallet full of money.

Suddenly, this last day seems full of possibility. Emerson and Vince can grant a lot of wishes in one last day -- maybe even their own.

Mina tankar

All We Have Is Now

Nya YA-boksläpp 20/7 - 26/7

Pretending to Be EricaPretending to Be Erica - Michelle Painchaud

Seventeen-year-old Violet’s entire life has revolved around one thing: becoming Erica Silverman, an heiress kidnapped at age five and never seen again.

Violet’s father, the best con man in Las Vegas, has a plan, chilling in its very specific precision. Violet shares a blood type with Erica; soon, thanks to surgery and blackmail, she has the same face, body, and DNA. She knows every detail of the Silvermans’ lives, as well as the PTSD she will have to fake around them. And then, when the time is right, she “reappears”—Erica Silverman, brought home by some kind of miracle.

But she is also Violet, and she has a job: Stay long enough to steal the Silverman Painting, an Old Master legendary in the Vegas crime world. Walking a razor’s edge, calculating every decision, not sure sometimes who she is or what she is doing it for, Violet is an unforgettable heroine, and Pretending to be Erica is a killer debut.

Mina tankar
Det känns lite som om bokvärlden håller andan inför höstens utgivning nu. Själv har jag redan en lååång lista på böcker som kommer ut i höst och som jag vill hinna läsa, men det är fortfarande ett litet tag kvar till dess. Den här veckan fångade Pretending to be Erica mitt intresse. Sägs vara lite i stil med We Were Liars och den tyckte jag ju väldigt mycket om.
