Nya hyllor :)

Kan erkänna att det inte blivit så mycket läsande de senaste dagarna. Har nämligen haft ett litet projekt på gång. Har jobbat på ett av mina mål för 2012 och resultatet - två nya hyllplan har kommit till världen! :) Blev faktiskt nöjd med dem och jag kan avslöja att i helgen blir det två hyllplan till :)

Hanna och Karin är bästisar och hela sommaren har de lekt och byggt kojor i skogen. Men när höstterminen börjar förändras allt. Karin vill vara med de tuffa tjejerna - och det blir med ens alldeles tomt runt Hanna. På rasterna gömmer hon sig för att inte bli retad eller slagen; för att syskonen inte ska se ringen av ensamhet kring henne. Hanna fyller elva men ingen i klassen sjunger för henne. Hon fyller tolv och har inget kalas; vem skulle vilja komma hem till henne?

Flera år senare finner vi Hanna på ett mentalsjukhus. Hon står vid fönstret och lutar sig mot världen utanför. Där finns froståkrarna, längtansvattnet och mörkerskogen, där finns människor, närhet, hud. Hon undrar hur kyssar smakar. Vill öppna fönstret och släppa in luft, här är det tungt att andas, själen får astma, dårskapen växer. Hon är fortfarande ung, här kan hon inte stanna.

Har lyckats få tag på ännu en sorglig bok av Johanna Nilsson! Ni kanske minns att jag för ett tag sedan läste Gå din väg men stanna av samma författare? I vilket fall som helst har jag nu läst Hon går genom tavlan ut ur bilden som egentligen skrevs först - insåg det precis när jag började läsa den här, eftersom denna boken beskriver hur allt började, hur saker och ting gick snett och sedan gick mer och mer utför för stackars Hanna - men jag tycker inte nödvändigtvis att det gör något, att jag inte läste dem i ordning. Det funkade ändå.

Det värsta med boken är att det delvis är en självbiografi, att mycket av det som händer i boken har hänt på riktigt. Igenkänningsfaktorn är enormt hög, kan jag då tillägga. Skulle vilja påstå att detta, på flera ställen, är som ett litet facit på hur det är att vara ett växande barn. Det är inte alls svårt att tänka sig in i de flesta av händelserna - i skolan, på kalasen hos klasskamraterna, på rasterna, hemma - eller att känna hur det svider till när så kallade "bästa vännen" plötsligt förändras och sviker och sedan verkar tillhöra de av "högre rang".

Det här är en bok som verkligen får en att tänka till och fundera på hur människor beter sig i olika situationer och varför, och hur svårt det är att vara ung och förvirrad och rädd för livet. För ovissheten. För framtiden. Flera gånger ville jag bara hoppa in i boken och säga till lilla Hanna att allt kommer att bli bra, bry dig inte om det, du är stark. Riktigt hemskt att läsa om hur saker och ting bara blev värre och värre, hur den lilla flickan gick sönder bit för bit inombords för varje minut som tickade iväg.

Tyckte faktiskt bättre om den här boken är den förra, men tycker absolut att man ska läsa båda. Jag tror att jag gillade den eftersom jag kände igen mig i så mycket. Jag kunde verkligen se de 'tuffa gängen' framför mig och läraren som inte såg, inte ville se, allt hemskt som hände rakt framför näsan på henne och bästa vännen som inte längre ville leka fåniga lekar ute i skogen och killarna som bara levde för att göra livet surt för alla andra med sina glåpord och trakasserier.

Det är en fin, hemsk och nyttig bok som knappast kommer att lämna någon oberörd. Alla borde läsa den och tänka till en extra gång.

Han längtar efter förändring och hoppas kunna hitta det på Culver Creek. Och visst förändras allt. Livet på skolan bygger på vänskap, fiendskap och ständiga brott mot skolans stränga regelverk. Inom loppet av något dygn har han fått ett nytt namn, fått en ny vän och en och annan ny ovana. Och han träffar Alaska Young - den smartaste, roligaste och snyggaste tjej han någonsin sett. Hon förändrar hans liv mer än något annat, mer än han någonsin kunnat ana...
  
Först och främst vill jag bara säga att även om jag gav boken det lägsta betyget så vill jag inte avskräcka er från att läsa den. Det finns väldigt många som har gett den toppbetyg och jag hade bara hört bra om boken innan jag började läsa den, så ta inte mitt betyg alltför allvarligt, och om ni har velat läsa den innan så tycker jag ni ska göra det för att få en egen uppfattning. Boken har ju trots allt fått mestadels positiv kritik. :) 

Så, till recensionen då. Som betyget visar gillade jag inte den här boken alls. Det var inte min typ av bok helt enkelt. Dessutom tror jag att det faktum att jag läst två fantastiska böcker precis innan denna kan ha gjort att jag upplevde den som ännu sämre än vad jag kanske skulle gjort annars. 

Karaktärerna kändes för mig inte alls verkliga och det var svårt att relatera till dem. De ville aldrig fastna och det kändes mest som att de fanns där bara för att det måste finnas personer i en bok. Handlingen gjorde inte det hela bättre. Jag kände aldrig att jag fick något grepp om vad den egentligen handlade om och de första hundrafemtio sidorna kändes bara som blaha. De blev lite bättre i andra halvan av boken, men inte tillräcklig för att kunna väga upp den tråkiga starten. Egentligen är det nog inte så dåligt som jag tyckte att det var, utan det är nog bara så att den inte passade mig.

Språket i boken tyckte jag inte heller om. Som jag nämnt innan kan det ha att göra med att jag precis läst Jellicoe Road och The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer som är fantastiskt bra skrivna, men jag hade riktigt svårt för Greens sätt att skriva. Det kändes stolpigt,  tråkigt och man kom aldrig vidare utan stod och stampade på samma ställe hela tiden. Dessutom var där lite överdrivet mycket svordomar för min del. Jag brukar egentligen inte reagera särskilt  mycket på det i vanliga fall, men här blev det för bra och det kändes inte som att det hade behövts. 

Jag vet inte varför men det är väldigt sällan jag läser böcker av manliga författare (och med manliga huvudpersoner med för den delen) och jag kan inte säga att Var är Alaska? har fått mig att ändra den vanan. Snarare tvärtom. Tråkigt med tanke på att det säkert finns många bra böcker av manliga författare, men det kommer nog dröja ett tag innan jag vågar plocka upp en bok skriven av en manlig författare igen..

Nu är det dags för vår första gemensamma recension och först ut är alltså The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. Vi hade båda hört mycket bra om boken innan, så våra förväntningar var riktigt höga, därför var det extra roligt att den överträffade dem. Vi måste också få lov att säga att framsidan är riktigt fin!

Redan från första sidan drogs man in i historien och det fortsatte att vara spännande genom resten av boken. Det var fullt med oväntade vändningar och man visste inte alltid vad som egentligen hände, om det var på riktigt eller bara en hallucination. Till och med när man fick reda på vad som verkligen hände var man ändå inte säker. Till och med nu är vi osäkra...

Trovärdiga karaktärer, som kändes väldigt verkliga, tillsammans med träffsäkra dialoger, som fick en att skratta högt flera gånger gjorde att det flöt på och ibland glömde man bort både tid och rum. Det var högt tempo och det blev aldrig långtråkigt, saker hände precis hela tiden och den ständigt obehagliga stämningen gjorde att vi bara ville läsa vidare för att få reda på vad som skulle hända härnäst. 

Michelle Hodkin använder sig av ett lite mer avancerat språk än vad vi är vana vid, vilket fick det att kännas väldigt genomarbetat och det är kul att hon har lyckats så bra med sin debutroman. Vi ser verkligen fram emot uppföljaren som släpps i år!

På min önskelista 2012

Det ser bestämt ut som om året kommer att bli fyllt med underbara böcker och jag har redan spanat in hur många som helst som jag vill ha! Hoppas på att kunna lägga vantarna på många av dem så småningom och kan knappt vänta tills de kommer ut... Tyvärr får inte alls plats på den här listan, långt ifrån faktiskt för det är riktigt många, men åtminstone några stycken. Ett litet smakprov, helt enkelt :)

Det svenska omslaget för Jellicoe Road

Som den Jellicoe Road nörd jag är måste jag ju bara visa omslaget som den svenska översättningen ska ha. X-publishing hade en omröstning på sin blogg där man kunde vara med och rösta fram vilket av de fem möjliga omslagen som man tyckte bäst om. Tyvärr vann inte det omslag jag gillade mest, men det gör inget. Alla omslag var fina, och även det som vann. :) Hoppas verkligen att fler kommer läsa den här underbara boken nu när den kommer på svenska den 15 maj.


Om du vill veta hur det går med översättningen kan du gå in och läsa översättaren, Katarina Kuicks Jellicoe Road-blogg. (OBS! Spoilervarning för er som inte läst boken.) Väldigt intressant läsning måste jag säga. Har aldrig riktigt tänkt på hur svårt det där med översättning kan vara, men nu vet jag :)

Skräcknovelltävling - avslutad!

Jag hoppas ni minns tävlingen hos BonnierCarlsen, som jag skrivit om några gånger. Den har nu hur som helst äntligen avslutats! Det var ju meningen att den redan skulle ha avgjorts innan jul, men på grund av att de fick så många bra noveller ville de skjuta på det så att de skulle få läsa alla riktigt noga innan de bestämde sig för fem finalister... Och jag kan knappt fatta att jag blev en av dem! :D Blev så sjukt glad när jag fick meddelandet idag och vet inte riktigt var jag ska bli av nu.

Jag vet inte ens var jag ska börja... Min hjärna går fortfarande på högvarv och alla mina tankar kretsar nu oavbrutet kring denna fantastiska berättelse, som liksom gnagt sig in i mig likt ett underbart virus. Ja, för det är så underbart att jag knappt hittar några ord för vad jag ska säga. Så otroligt gripande!

Det här var en bladvändare av högsta klass och tempot var så högt att jag ibland glömde bort att andas. Kunde helt enkelt omöjligt lägga ifrån mig boken innan sista sidan var läst och nu när den är det vet jag inte hur jag ska kunna klara mig till tredje och sista delen släpps på svenska. Visst, den finns att köpa på engelska, men av någon anledning vill jag behålla känslan jag fick när jag läste både del ett och nu del två på svenska. För mig, i just den här serien, är det vad som känns rätt. Så jag får helt enkelt stå ut och vänta...

Cirkeln och Pilen är skriven på ett sätt som jag inte riktigt kan beskriva. Ett sätt som riktigt suger sig in i skinnet på en och plötsligt ligger man inte i sin säng och läser. Man är där. Man ser allt. Man känner allt. Som en stor fet knytnäve i ansiktet. Så känns det. Fruktansvärt. Underbart.

Och många knytnävar i ansiktet blir det också för de stackars människorna och de icke-mänskliga utangerna som befinner sig i New Prentisstown, som för tillfället ligger i krig. För när det är krig råder det förvirring och är man förvirrad är det svårt att veta vem man ska lita på, så i många fall händer det att någon delar ut en snyting här och var. I Todds och Violas fall blir kriget och den hastiga separationen från varandra en kamp mellan det onda och det goda - framför allt att försöka lista ut vem som är just det, ond eller god. För vänner skulle väl aldrig svika en? Och vänner skulle väl aldrig låta bomberna falla över oskyldiga människor...?

Det här är alltså andra gången jag läser Jellicoe Road och eftersom min förra recension var allmänt kass på grund av att jag bara kunde få fram att jag älskade den, så tänkte jag ge det ett  nytt försök nu när jag läst den en gång till. Jag kan inte lova att det blir bättre för jag har precis samma känsla som jag hade då, bara några miljoner gånger starkare, men jag ska göra mitt bästa.

Det är väldigt ofta som jag hittar böcker som jag verkligen tycker om och som får högsta betyg, men det är väldigt sällan som jag hittar böcker som är så fantastiska att de egentligen inte går att betygsätta och som lever kvar i ens tankar långt efter det att man läst ut dem. Jellicoe Road är en av dem. Historien är så vacker, så sorglig och så underbar att jag dör lite för varje sida jag läser. Jag älskade den redan fösta gången jag läste den, men jag måste säga att den har vuxit ännu mer i mina ögon efter omläsningen. Saker som var förvirrande första gången blev tydliga nu och jag upptäckte alla dessa små detaljer som jag lyckats missa första gången.

Melina Marchettas språk är nog bland de vackraste jag någonsin läst. Det har det där fantastiska flytet som jag bara älskar och varje mening, varje ord är så perfekt att man vill läsa det om och om igen. Jag älskar hur alla små lösa bitar långsamt drar sig närmre varandra för att tillslut bilda ett färdigt pussel. Det är så genomtänkt, så bra.

När det gäller karaktärerna älskar jag dem allihop. Taylor, Jonah, Raffaela, Santangelo, Jessa, Narnie, Tate, Jude, Webb, Fitz. Alla har sin egen historia men de är samtidigt väldigt sammanflätade. Det är omöjligt att inte beröras. Man känner deras sorg, glädje, ilska, kärlek till varandra, ja, allt.

Jag älskar Jellicoe Road. Jag älskar språket. Jag älskar karaktärerna. Jag älskar allt som boken innehåller och så fort som jag läst ut den vill jag bara börja om på nytt. Jag vill aldrig lämna Jellicoe.

Jag vet inte om den här recensionen blev mycket bättre än den förra, men det är svårt att uttrycka sig när man har hittat en bok som berör en så mycket och som man inte vill släppa taget om. Den gör mig både så ledsen att jag gråter floder och så glad att jag inte kan sluta le. Det är den perfekta boken för mig och om jag bara fick äga och läsa en enda bok under resten av mitt liv skulle jag inte tveka en sekund innan jag valde Jellicoe Road. Så mycket tycker jag om den.
